Mustard Ties was established by Chris Waldron in 1996, almost twenty years ago, but Chris has spent his whole career in the fashion industry, starting at Burberry in 1980. His father was a master tailor and he can trace the family history back in an unbroken line of tailors to the mid 1800s, as this 1861 census shows.
A love of cloth and tailoring is quite literally in our blood. We have an exceptional understanding of textiles and garment design and a passion for fine quality workmanship, but the thing that sets us apart is our reputation for building warm and trusting relationships with staff, suppliers and customers. When they come to visit, customers tell us that our workroom atmosphere is upbeat and uplifting. We like that!
Mustard was born out of many years’ experience in the tie trade. Having designed collections for Christian Dior, Paul Salgo and Holliday & Brown, Chris was highly skilled in the art and science of tie-making, using the finest silks and the most exacting production methods. Setting up his own company in 1996 was a natural progression.
With the increasing popularity of the ‘made in England’ label for customers at home and abroad, we decided to expand the company by taking on a production capacity in 2013. Our wonderful workroom staff are continuing a one-hundred year tradition of UK manufacturing at our Gillingham site. Today we have a team of expert cutters and machinists making ties to the highest specification for some of the world’s most prestigious brands.
With a heritage like ours we understand the importance of quality and continuity and we love working with our established and up-and-coming brands to create beautiful products that reflect those ideals.
